Sometimes...Size Does Matter

In my practice I have met many people of different ages and stages of development,  of learning, and of life.  I have used my Reiki hands to help deliver new lives into this world, I have used my Reiki hands to help lives cross over to the other side, and I have helped many in between find balance and make peace in ways that only they can truly know.

Most people come into my practice because they are stressed, depressed, or anxious. Some people come to me because they have nowhere else to turn, and yet others have no idea why they’ve come. They are simply looking for something but they’re not quite sure what it is they are looking for.  They just know that something is missing and through Reiki and some intuitive insight, we work on a way to find it, together.

I had a client not too long ago that suffered with agoraphobia. She did NOT like to leave the house. She also didn’t like our health care system as she’d had a difficult time with doctors in the past. She had heard about reiki and found me through an internet search.

At the end of one of our last treatment sessions together she said to me with joyous tears in her eyes that she never thought she would see the light at the end of the tunnel and now it is all happening to her. She had become more confident and in control of herself and her destiny.  She said she had me to thank for her new found happiness.  As flattered as I was by her accusation, I quickly denied.  I told her that she should thank herself as she had done a lot of work to improve her own circumstances.  Bewildered, she replied that she hadn’t done anything at all and thought that Reiki was the prince charming that rescued her from the dark tower.

I told her that when she made the decision to come and see me, she took a shower that morning, got dressed, put her shoes on, left the house and walked through my door.  The first step to her healing began with her own decision and motivation to improve. I was just the catalyst. She was inspired to get better and took the first step to do so.

I then told her it was the little things that change the course of events. It had nothing to do with me. All along she had the power within her to create the change that she needed to carry on, but desired a motivator like the idea of coming to see me as an incitement to get up and go.

You don’t need to be a Reiki person to experience this for yourself. Know that it takes one small step to create mountains of change in your life. Just put one foot in front of the other and go!

Another Sneaky Peaky

Saturday, April 7, 2012
It's that time of year when the earth starts to wake up from her deep sleep. She yawns, which starts the energy flowing, sending new life to sprout up from her solid ground. There's growth everywhere. Spring is definitely the season where you want to start new endeavors, to grow with the sprouting flowers, to let your worries melt in the warming sun.

I thought I would take advantage of the energy of the spring and share a little more of my new project. Since spring is also a good time to set goals, I'm hoping to have the written portion of my book complete by the fall/September.  Wish me luck!! And your feedback is always appreciated!

Isn’t it amazing how sometimes music can appear to transcend any mood, lift your heart and touch your soul like nothing else can? It truly seems to spark some other wordly emotion where just for a couple of minutes, nothing else matters but you and the song.

Likewise, think of the moment when your child was born or when you met your child for the first time, where just for an instant, the pain is gone, time stands still, and you are swirling in a state of total euphoria. There is no way to describe that feeling, is there? It seems to exist half on this plane and half in some other realm where nothing else matters except for you and your new baby and the whole of the both of you are encompassed in pure loving energy. It is at that instance that everything in your world is absolutely perfect.

That feeling, that experience of bliss is similar to when you discover the spiritual person that is harbored deep inside. Discovering your path is like waking up from a deep sleep and experiencing the world for the first time in a different light with new eyes.  Living your path is what helps you to maintain a much needed balance throughout your day. It helps you to grow as a being living on this physical plane, to cope with daily stresses in a more balanced and relaxed manner. It keeps you grounded and centered yet always growing intellectually and comes with the understanding that we are all connected in some way....

Body And Soul Advice... with Erin Telford

Sunday, March 25, 2012
<--- This is Erin Telford. I went to school with this pretty lady and let me tell you she is one smart cookie.  She graduated from PCOM (our acpuncture school in Manhattan) with a masters in chinese medicine and has a thriving business out in those parts. She is my guest blogger and I am happy to have her here.

I fell in love with her body and soul advice for spring and I know you can reap some mega rewards from her intuitive words of wisdom. Please check out Radiant Heart Acupuncture  to learn more about Erin and her practice!

SPRING
The birds are chirping, the sun is shining and we’ve had a few gloriously un-puffy coated days lately. Mother Nature gave us a break this year from the last few brutal east coast winters. I have to say though-If a warmer than average winter is wrong, I don’t want to be right. This feels GOOD.

Spring has an energy of sweet anticipation. The Qi of this season rises up and out like a beautiful strong tree. It’s all about growth and renewal and there can be a mild restlessness associated with it’s arrival. Winter encourages us to conserve energy, reduce our physical activity and increase our internal practices. Spring wants us to regenerate, reproduce and renew ourselves. It’s like we’re poised at the starting line waiting for the gun to go off. Ready, set, grow!

The organ system associated with spring is the Liver and Gallbladder. The Liver controls the proper flow of energy in the body. When it is blocked, we can experience irritation, frustration, and impatience. Fittingly, the emotion associated with this organ is anger. Anger in its simplest form says, “I don’t like this. Something needs to be different about this situation.” Anger expressed in a healthy way is a beautiful catalyst for change. We are seeing this in many forms in our world right now!

The transitional time between seasons is a perfect time for a seasonal tune-up treatment. Acupuncture can strengthen your body to help it navigate the extreme weather shifts. Check out my transitional tips below for practical ideas on how you can capitalize on the energy of the first weeks of spring!

1. Move and spend more time outside
This is crucial. It is far too easy to forget that we are animals when we spend so much time indoors attached to our laptops, TV’s and cell phones. Our bodies were made to run, jump, swim, dance, climb, spin, fall, roll, shake, and shimmy. Let them do it. Outside air helps your Qi flow! Allow the staleness of winter to slough off to create a clean slate for spring!

2. Seek alternatives for your allergies
If you suffer from allergies, herbs and acupuncture can help tremendously to sooth congestion, sneezing and itchy eyes. Regular treatments can alleviate or even banish symptoms all together. Allergic reactions are seen by Chinese medicine as an inability to interact smoothly with your environment. “Going with the flow” is the m.o. of the liver. Consider areas in your life where you could let go a little more.

3. Plant a seed
This could be the seed of a beautiful heirloom tomato plant or the seed of a dream you’ve kept on the back burner for far too long. Whether your seeds are literal or metaphorical chose something to nurture right now that will grow and give back to you when the time is ripe.

4. Incorporate sour flavors into your diet
Picture the face you make when you bite into a lemon-your lips pucker up as you feel the tang on your tongue. Your Liver loves this! Sour is its favorite flavor because it provides natural, gentle cleansing. Add lemon slices or a big spoonful of organic apple cider vinegar to a glass of water for an easy, non-abrasive liver cleanse.

5. Detoxify & release pent up emotions
Detoxify your entire system. Begin by limiting your toxin exposure from processed foods, intoxicants, chemical household products, and body care products. This is the ideal time for a gentle dietary cleanse. You may want to go a little deeper and look within to see where and what emotions you may be internalizing. Grief and anger harm our physical bodies the longer they are kept inside. Consider addressing the root of those emotions and get them up and out! It’s time.

6. Eat green!
Young green plants like dandelion or mustard greens, sprouts and immature cereal grasses can stimulate the Liver and move your Qi. Other foods to begin to include in your diet now are radishes, watercress, ginger, mint, cilantro, basil, pear, apple, celery, carrot, leeks, onions, dates, mushrooms, and spinach.

7. Take care of your eyes
The eyes are the sense organ related to the Liver. We are staring at computer or smart phone screens FAR too much and our eyes are tired! Take care of your overworked eyes. Rest your eyes by covering them with the palms of your hands and allow your eyes to relax until you see only all black. When at your computer, look as far as you can away from your monitor every 15 minutes.

8. Stretch
The Liver rules the tendons, sinews and ligaments. Any injuries to these areas may be acting up right now. Our body wants to stretch and expand after being cooped up all winter. Notice where your body holds tension and gently ease it out.

9. Grow & Expand!
The energy of the Liver and of springtime is up and out! Picture all of those little saplings bursting through the soil to reach for the sun. Spring brings new life, rebirth, and restores vigor and energy for our hopes and dreams. Make a wish list. Take a look at your New Year’s resolutions and see how you are stacking up. Learn a new skill. Update your resume. Go for it!

10. See your acupuncturist for a seasonal tune-up
Transitional times are not the most comfortable. Poised between the familiar but outgrown (Winter) and the new but unknown (Spring) can cause frustration, allergies, stress, muscle injuries, irregular menstrual cycles, and general
imbalance. Seasonal acupuncture treatments are appropriate to keep you in harmony even if you aren’t experiencing any particular health issues.

Excerpt from RGJFYSV1:
Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve always felt “connected” to something that I could not see.  I didn’t grow up particularly religious saving most of my church experiences for weddings, funerals, easter basket blessings (as many polish do), and the occasional game of bingo.   I sort of understood the religious figures that stood high above us on the walls of the church and always adored the ones of Mary holding the little baby, but I never truly knew their stories or developed a close personal connection to them until many years later.

No, this was a different “something” I was connected to. I always felt drawn to it, talked to it (was even busted having a full on conversation with mid air by my mother and brother once.. yikes), prayed to it, cried to it, you name it. I suppose now when I look back, that “something” would be now considered god/goddess/the divine/the universe or whatever your understanding is. I sort of knew that then but didn’t really think about it I guess.  It wasn’t until my late teens or early 20’s when I took courses in energy healing that I finally understood what that connection was.

My first experience was profound and what I gathered from it, has stuck with me as a basis towards my personal belief system ever since.  I was 22 years old and was half way through my day long Reiki...

Positively Positive

Melissa, from Upstate New York asks, "Wondering about positive change or good energy coming in".

Here is your card:

The Star

Here is your mini reading, Melissa. I hope it helps!

The first thing I’m being shown is a pregnancy.. either you or someone around you that is close. I have the feeling that this isn’t one of those symbolic pregnancies I get either. :)

Next I’m hearing “the star of your show” and feeling like right now is the time for you to shine.  I feel almost like you’ve been holding back a little bit, sort of not showing that world all that you are capable of. Well, girlfriend, let any modestly or false pretenses go because you have SO MUCH to offer. I feel like you’ll be getting noticed somewhere and quite possibly gain some media attention.  Be aware that positive changes are coming…and the empty void you may have been feeling will be filled with a new found self awareness in regards to how you view yourself and the environment around you. In otherwords, the stuck.. will become unstuck and your energy will be free flowing and off in the right direction.

Here's your reading Sandy. I hope it make sense for you.

Hearing two songs all mixed up into one for you today, Sandy. Alanis Morissette singing “Ironic” and the Beatles singing “All You Need is Love”.   Both I think you may find some meaning if you look into the lyrics.

I think that as spirit is saying, you find a lot of things in your life very “ironic”. But don’t feel like you’re the type of person to make a mountain out of a mole hill and usually let strange or unpleasant life moments slip off to the way side.  I feel also like you haven’t quite reached your full potential spiritually or creatively.  I am quoting spirit directly here but they say this “She’s got mad skills”. Lol Seriously!  I also am hearing that you are destined to be doing “god’s work”.  I feel this may be in the form of light work like “healing” or well possibly with children. I can see you working closely with children you are like a guide or “an angel to them”.

I feel the disconnect where you give give give but don’t open yourself to allow  love in.  I’m feeling like you guard your heart very closely and think that it may be time to start letting a little bit of love back in. Just a little bit at a time to make yourself comfortable.

Right now I feel like you are fighting an uphill battle of sorts and you need to maintain that balance. You can’t continue to give of yourself unless you let your heart receive as well.

Hearing opening up to your own inner guidance will help to open up the doors of abundance for you.  Yes things will get better! Start with your own light, let that shine, and see what energy comes back to you. Allow it to happen.

Changing the Colors

Sue from the UK asks, "Will things get better?

Here is her card:

Three of Hearts

Here is her reading:
So I posed the question as to whether things will get better and I automatically hear a very jubilant, “of course they will!”.  I feel the energy is shifting around you rapidly and the start of your new/happier phase is going to come in the form of a surprise.  A letter in the mail, a visit from an old friend some happy surprise is headed your way.

You’re definitely headed for a lighter time in life, spirit advises that you get out more and experience life. Do something brand new that makes you happy! Attend a workshop or grab a book and learn something you’ve always wanted to learn.

I’m also hearing that you are going to make amends with a loved one that you have been feuding with for awhile.  A man in spirit is telling me that life here is too short to fuss with eachother.. on his side they see the love that resides under the pain and hurt.. and those colors don’t come through so pretty over there. "Time to change the colors", he says. Hearing a possible A name association with this person. Like Al or Alfred.. but I'm usually not great with the entire name.. the first letter should be the one that resonates.

Love and light to you!
Xo
